Why businesses choose Ftax

Low cost filing, not a monthly subscription

MTD for Income Tax adds four filings a year to your Self Assessment. Ftax charges one flat credit for the year rather than a monthly fee, so the cost of staying compliant is fixed and known.

One credit, one year

Your credit covers all four quarterly updates and the end-of-year return. Nothing extra falls due in January.

Free under £10,000

You only need to apply a credit once your turnover passes £10,000. Below that, the forms are free to use.

Keep your spreadsheets

Import your income and expense figures by CSV from your own spreadsheet, or record them in the Ftax Cashbook.

HMRC recognised

Ftax has been recognised by HMRC for online tax filing for over 20 years, across Self Assessment, VAT, CT600 and MTD.

Built for self-employed and landlords

Everything you need to file, in one account

Ftax keeps your forms, credits and submission data in one Ftax Account, and every successful submission is archived with a stamped PDF copy.

Export your income and expense totals as a CSV file and import them straight into the quarterly update form.

Ftax Cashbook

Record transactions in the Cashbook and the totals carry through to the quarterly update form. Business Cashbook credits are low cost, and the Cashbook is currently half price for the 2026/27 tax year.

Customer Feedback

Using your Ftax products here (especially now it’s the webform version) genuinely makes things much simpler for us. Plus having real human beings to contact when we do need to check something is reassuring. So thanks again for the excellent service and your help today.

Hi Trace, successfully submitted this morning. Thanks as always for your help. I kept putting off using the web form and it was so much easier than I thought it was going to be.

The Ftax software is “brilliant”, and I would never consider going anywhere else. The design of the web forms are intuitive and easy-to-use, even for a technophobe like me. They are a big improvement on the PDF forms.

I bought your software a couple of days ago to file my SA800 … I am very happy with the process and outcome and your speed of response … … I shall certainly be using your software for my personal self assessments.

I have been submitting tax returns via Ftax for the past fifteen years, and this has been the easiest, and

Your web forms (Partnership and SA100) are easy to navigate – the website works well, and it just eases the burden … … like I imagine everyone else – I am on your site only once a year – its an enjoyable enough experience. So, thank you.

FAQs

Common Questions

Is Ftax recognised by HMRC for MTD for Income Tax?

Yes. Ftax has been recognised by HMRC as a supplier of online tax filing software for over 20 years, and the MTD for Income Tax forms are built to HMRC’s MTD requirements. Only recognised software can be used to send quarterly updates.

What does one credit cover?

One credit covers your MTD for Income Tax filing for one tax year. It includes both the quarterly update form and the end-of-year form, so there is no separate charge when the year-end filing falls due.

When is the next quarterly update due?

Quarterly updates for the 2026/27 tax year are due on 7 August 2026, 7 November 2026, 7 February 2027 and 7 May 2027.

Your Ftax Account shows the current period and its deadline, so you always know which one is next. The Final Declaration, which replaces the Self Assessment tax return, is then due by 31 January 2028.

What happens if I miss a deadline?

HMRC has confirmed that no penalty points will be issued for late quarterly updates during the first year of MTD for Income Tax. All four quarterly updates still have to be submitted before you can complete your tax return, so it is best not to let them slip. Penalties do still apply to late tax returns and late payments, and those are unaffected by the first-year concession.

Does MTD for Income Tax apply to me?

It applies if your combined gross income from self-employment and property was above £50,000, from 6 April 2026. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. Employment, pension, savings and dividend income does not count towards it.

Can I use the spreadsheets I already have?

Yes. Income and expense figures can be imported into the Ftax forms from your own spreadsheet by CSV file, or recorded in the Ftax Cashbook if you would rather keep everything in one place.
